*Mr. Gallatin was appointed as the Secretary of the Treasury by President Jefferson.  He served from 1801 until 1813. "After he left the Treasury Department, Gallatin became involved in the negotiations which led to the Treaty of Ghent, bringing the War of 1812 to a close.
