Within the limits of the present state of Michigan there were the two fortified posts of importance--Detroit and Michillimackinac. The latter post was located on the island of Mackinac situated on the strait between the two peninsulas of Michigan... . Fort Lernoult was within the limits of the Detroit post.. ."
