An Unsolved Mystery

A Canadian posited that it was a mystery how an invasion of a neighbor could be characterized as a 2nd war of independence:

"In the Buffalo paper, in which some of these were copied, occurs the rather astonishing and not easily to be understood statement, 'we now approach the period of the second war of independence.'  How an armed invasion of a peaceful neighboring country can be called a war of independence by the invader is an unsolved mystery."
